Born as the son of the County Keeper of Northwall, largest county in the Freelands, Tarwin has always had a taste for politics. Although his priviledged upbringing might have been used to catapault him through the political ranks, Tarwin has instead earned his position as First Minister of the Freelands with impeccable fairness and dedication to due democratic process. A firm believer in fair representation for all, Tarwin is a popular First Minister at most social strata, being widely known to support an all-races-and-trades-are-equal policy.
He is also headstrong, stubborn, and firmly opposed to any form of non-elected leadership. Thus it is that while his professional position requires suitable diplomacy and manners, he will in private discussion express strong opinions against the monarchic rule of Lordenor, and the royal house of Irontooth, and admit to a desire to see a "proper" democratic government set up in their place.
It is perhaps no surprise that when an aggressive force bearing the banners of Lordenor lands on Freelands beaches, Tarwin will not accept that it wasn't under the orders of Maximillian Irontooth, despite the protests of the leonin king. It will also not surprise any who are close to him that, when a war appears inevitable, Tarwin's thoughts turn not to how to minimise casualties and protect his own people, but to how to topple the monarchy of Lordenor - all in the name of freedom, of course.
