After Tyrandius' death, several decades after the great Dragon War, it took two centuries for the Order of Magi to feel comfortable that he was actually dead. Renound for his power with dark magic, he was the undisputed master of magic in his time, a fearsome warrior in the Dragon War, and according to some accounts, the cause of it.
Known for his unswerving dedication to the pursuit of power, Tyrandius never let anything stand in his way, and his experiments, cruelty, and incredible power became legendary among the magi. When it seemed that old age must finally claim him, he created his last, greatest legacy, the Eye of Night, a fearsome talisman and anchor to hold his living soul upon this plain.
Seizing the opportunity presented by Tyrandius' death, the magi of the time sealed the Eye of Night within a tomb buried deep under the sands of the Southern Desert, hoping that it would never be found. Fate, alas, has a way of making fools of even the wisest. Time and erosion finally revealed the tomb nearly one thousand years later, the dread contents becoming available to the first person who dared the dark passageways.
Created from the deaths of one thousand innocent lives, the Eye of Night shines blood red, ever watchful for someone passing within its reach, ever seeking a body powerful enough to house the spirit of Tyrandius.
